The Child Who Was God

Hi friends, I hope you are having a merry December.

I just wanted to write a post today about something that's been on my mind and heart for the past few weeks.  It's about Christmas and how as I get older it seems to be harder and harder to get into the "Christmas spirit."  Not that I don't enjoy Christmas or seeing Christmas through my sweet baby girl's eyes.  I do, I really do, but how do we really focus in on the true meaning of Christmas.  It seems hard to me to be able to do the shopping, the presents, the cookie baking, the decorating and make it all be about Christ.  I mean to REALLY have it be about Him and not just the good feelings that come from all the fun stuff that happens at this season, but to feel the true spirit of Christmas and celebrate what God did for us by sending his Son.
Well, it was all cleared up for me when my husband came home a few nights ago and said that he wanted me to listen to a sermon that he had listened to while he was driving to and from job sites that day.
It's a sermon by John MacArthur and it is called "The Child Who Was God."
In this sermon he preaches on Colossians 1:15-19:

He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by Him all things were created, both in the heavens and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities, all things have been created by Him and for Him and He is before all things and in Him all things hold together. He is also head of the body, the church; and He is the beginning, the first-born from the dead; so that He Himself might come to have first place in everything. For it was the Father's good pleasure for all the fullness to dwell in Him.

I have read this scripture recently (we almost put it on our Christmas cards actually) and it didn't really sink in.  I guess I really didn't take the time to think and meditate on what it is saying and what it means.  I won't go through everything that Mr. MacArthur says or everything that the scripture holds, but I will point out the truth that pierced my soul.  Jesus, whose birth we are celebrating in less than two weeks, who was born in a stable is GOD!  Our CREATOR, the one who holds the entire universe together, the one that came to SAVE us!!!!  He's not just a baby in the trough that looks pretty in my nativity scene or the one that is mentioned in the christmas carols we sing every year.  He is GOD and he humbled himself and came to Earth to save us-that's right - to save US!  He was God in human form.  AMAZING!

I'm so thankful to Mr. MacArthur for preaching this and to my hubby for bringing it to my attention.  It has renewed my mind and has caused me to think of Jesus properly, to put him where he belongs in the highest most glory-filled position in my life.  And so, having the right thinking makes me eager to celebrate and do all the fun things, because really it is such a HUGE thing, and a birth to be celebrated like no other.

I strongly encourage you to listen or read this sermon.  Listen to it while you are baking, listen to it while you are wrapping presents, listen to it while you are driving to work, listen to it whenever you get a chance, but I pray that the truth of God's word blesses you this Christmas season as it already has for me.
May all the Glory be His!
Merry Christmas,
Audrey
